Highlights from Day 1 of LVP/LD/Fusion GOP Convention Poll

Yesterday Latino Victory Project, Fusion and Latino Decisions released the first set of poll results on Latino voter reactions to the first day of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland. The online poll surveyed 300 registered Latino voters in Spanish and English and has a margin of error of +/-5.6 percentage points.  Toplines here. Below are three of the poll’s key findings.

Latino voters are engaged in the 2016 presidential election.

  • 37% are following the election on a daily basis, and another 45% reported doing so several times a week.
  • 74% are following the Republican National Convention. They are keeping up and following across formats including television news (87%), social media (71%), and media websites (72%).

The toxicity of Donald Trump’s candidacy in the Latino community cannot be understated.

  • 83% view him as a racist
  • 79% have an unfavorable opinion of him
  • Only 17% are likely to vote for him
  • Despite Trump’s claims that “Latinos love Trump,” just 12% feel the same.

Trump has made a bad situation worse.

  • 71% think Trump has made the Republican Party more hostile to Latino voters
  • 22% think the Republican Party respects Latinos
  • 76% see the party as being anti-immigrant

Along with Latino Victory Project and Fusion, we will be releasing new results each day this week  — so be sure to check back in with us for updates on how Latino voters are responding to the Republican National Convention.
